TARIFF LENS
Tariff Lens is a Chrome extension that brings real-time tariff impact calculations to Amazon, eBay, Temu, AliExpress, and Etsy. It became the #1 most-used tariff extension in its category at launch — surpassing all competing extensions with over 100 users in the first 30 days, 90%+ detection accuracy, and coverage across 60+ countries.
How I approached the project
As tariff policy shifted rapidly, shoppers had no quick way to know how import duties affected the real price of products they were already browsing. I identified the gap: a lightweight tool that surfaces tariff-adjusted pricing without disrupting the shopping experience.
I designed a non-intrusive overlay that integrates directly into product pages on Amazon, eBay, Temu, AliExpress, and Etsy — showing before-and-after pricing in a single glance, without requiring any interaction or disrupting the native shopping UI.
I built the extension from scratch — implementing product origin detection with 90%+ accuracy across Amazon, brand recognition for 100+ manufacturers, and live tariff rate data covering 60+ countries, all packaged in a GDPR-compliant, zero-personal-data architecture.
Published to the Chrome Web Store and iterated rapidly — shipping updates across multiple versions to improve detection accuracy, expand country coverage, and refine the overlay UX based on real user feedback.
